What does a release bearing do?
Clutch Release Bearing. The clutch release bearing is what makes the whole clutch process work. It is responsible for allowing the clutch to engage the engine and disengage the engine. The bearing rides on the clutch spring and connects the gearbox's release mechanism to the pressure plate.
How do I know if my release bearing is bad?
1. You hear a grinding or rattling noise as you depress the clutch.
2. You may feel that your clutch pedal has become a lot harder to depress.
3. You hear a grinding noise as your shift gears even when the clutch is fully depressed.
4. You can feel a vibration from the clutch pedal while depressing it.
